All good things must come to an end
This is a post that was entered in 2008. It looked as though Ham Radio was going to be fun again. As of 2015 things have returned to the past. There is little change, the faces are different but the actions of just a very few have destroyed the hobby here in Ripley County.
----------------------------------------
I just want to say thank you publicly to the Ripley County Amateur Radio Club (RCARC). This is a newly organized Ham Radio club and unlike the other Ripley County Ham club, this one is open to all people that are interested in the hobby of radio. All meetings are open to all, there will be no secret meetings and you can read the meeting minutes online. The RCARC has a working repeater station on 441.775 MHZ that all licensed Hams are welcome and encouraged to use. You do not have to join this new club to use their repeater station, but if you decide to, it will not drain your bank account. The membership is only $12 per year total. They are already planning upcoming events such as Commo for the Red Cross, VE Testing, Field Day, Swap fest, breakfasts, and much more. Read more about this new organization at:
http://www.441775.com
I'm sure the RCARC will make Ham Radio fun again for the many shunned Hams in the past. (and I'm one of the shunned) Thanks again RCARC, all the best.

free stuff
The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like
The folks who are paying for the free stuff , because
The folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer
Afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
And the folks who are paying for the free stuff
Want the free stuff to stop.
And the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more
Free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already
getting!
Now... The people who are forcing the people who pay
For the free stuff have told the people who are RECEIVING
The free stuff that the people who are PAYING for the Free stuff are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.
So... The people who are GETTING the free stuff have been
convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the Free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.
We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are
now more people getting free stuff than paying for the Free
stuff .

71st anniversary of D-Day
Click photo to enlarge |
Saturday, June 6 marked the 71st anniversary of D-Day, the American landing on the beaches of Normandy. Shown above are brothers Herman (left) and Clem Jahnigen. The boys were the sons of Arthur and Clara Jahnigen of the Cedar Creek community near Osgood. Herman was a sergeant in the 508th Parachute Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division and landed at Normandy. He was wounded on June 9, 1944 and was Ripley County's most decorated veteran. Some of his awards included the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Silver Star Medal, as well as a battlefield commission on June 27, 1945. Clem was a staff sergeant with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regement of the 101st Airborne Division and also participated in the D-Day invasion. Among his several awards were the Silver Star Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Clem died at the age of 63 on November 28, 1983 and Herman died at the age of 87 on May 23, 2005. Both are buried in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles.

YoWindow = great Weather Reports and Screen Saver
YoWindow is a stand alone program that is free for the downloading. It will give you the weather forecast not only for today but a few days in the future. If you are into screen savers it is a great one. I recommend the "airport landscape".
