I was at the local pub just after the parade and was talking to several others that had just marched in the Pumpkin Show Parade. One said he could not believe that people would not stand and remove there hats when the Colors passed, some did, most didn't. I made the statement that we veterans gave them the right to not stand and remove thier hats. You could have heard a pin drop for several minutes. Think about it. ........ Jack

Chris Economaki 1920 - 2012

I would bet most reading this blog have never heard of Chris, but if you are an old timer like me you can remember Speed Sport News in witch Chris was the editor/owner. This was way before NASCAR was on TV and I read it each and every week cover to cover. The first time I seen him was on Wide World of Sports. CBS was broadcasting the Fire Cracker 400. I will miss him along with thousands of other race fans ........Jack

Claudine Longet

With the death of Andy Williams it brought to mind his wife Claudine. I always thought she was one of the prettiest ladies I've seen. I guess I am just attracted to little dark haired French girls. At any rate I did a Google search for information and a few photos of her ...... jack.

Longet and Williams met in Las Vegas in 1960 when she was 18 and he was 32. Longet was experiencing problems with her car and had pulled over to the side of the road. Driving by, Williams stopped to offer assistance. She was the lead dancer of the Folies Bergère revue at the Tropicana Resort & Casino. They married on 15 December 1961 in Los Angeles, and had three children: Noëlle (born on 24 September 1963), Christian (born on 15 April 1965), and Robert ("Bobby") (born on 1 August 1969). They legally separated in 1970 and divorced in January 1975. According to Williams, they remained "very good friends"

"Machine Gun Kelly", was an American gangster during the Prohibition era.His nickname came from his favorite weapon, a Thompson submachine gun. His most famous crime was the kidnapping of oil tycoon and businessman Charles F. Urschel in July 1933 for which he, and his gang, collected a $200,000 ransom. Their victim had collected and left considerable evidence that assisted the subsequent FBI investigation that eventually led to Kelly's arrest in Memphis, Tennessee on September 26, 1933. His crimes also included bootlegging and armed robbery.

KG4WSS, Killed in Consulate Attack

09/18/2012 Sean P. Smith, KG4WSS, of Falls Church, Virginia, was killed when the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked on September 11. He was 34. Smith was one of four Americans, including Chris Stevens -- the US Ambassador to Libya -- who was killed in the attack.

Versailles Pumpkin Show 2012

The Little town of Versailles, Indiana is located in the Southeast of the state where not much happens and I suppose the people that live there like it that way. One thing that does happen each year in the cool late fall days of September is a homecoming event called the Pumpkin Show.

This event has been ongoing for over a hundred years and seems to grow larger each Fall. I did a search with Google and came up with very few facts concerning the past history of the event. Perhaps I can look up some information and do a page on it in the future.

B-29 first Flight 9/21/1942

1942 – The prototype model of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, a four-engine heavy bomber that became one of the largest aircraft to see service during World War II, flew for the first time.

The B-29 was one of the largest aircraft to see service during World War II. A very advanced bomber for this time period, it included features such as a pressurized cabin, an electronic fire-control system, and remote-controlled machine-gun turrets. Though it was designed as a high-altitude daytime bomber, in practice it actually flew more low-altitude nighttime incendiary bombing missions.[citation needed] It was the primary aircraft in the American firebombing campaign against the Empire of Japan in the final months of World War II, and carried the atomic bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Unlike many other WWII-era bombers, the B-29 remained in service long after the war ended, with a few even being employed as flying television transmitters for the Stratovision company. The type was finally retired in the early 1960s, with 3,960 aircraft in all built.

happy birthday to me - 9/13

The big news today is a big happy bithday to me ! I am 67 today.

I will go to the local pub this afternoon for my birthday beer and a kiss on the cheek (I hope it is a bar maid working today). The Friendship Shoot is going on this week and the Versailles Pumpkin Show is in two weeks. I hope the weather will hold for these events. Work is slow for my computer business, I hope it picks up so I can buy more toys. ....... Jack

Indiana Parks on the air Contest Sept 8, 2012

Tomorrow (Saturday) Jerry KC9HYL and Jack WB9OTX will put the Versailles State Park on the air. We will be attempting to contact other Hams in state parks in Indiana and also Ohio. Other Ham Radio Stations not in the Indiana parks will also be contacted. This is a fun contest that only lasts 8 hours, 12 noon to 8pm. We will be operating on 40 meters (7 Mhz ) with battery power and a low to the grown wire antenna. If you are a Ham give us a call to help our score. You can read about the contest at:
