Hackers attack My Pages

Monday about noon I received a phone call from SKFuneralHome telling me their web page had been hacked. It had a big black banner with a link for the viewer to click, and I hope no one did. A call to my host and ask if they had a back-up of the pages. The did but they could not tell me how resent it was. They do a back-up twice a month but the obituaries must be timely. I told them not to restore the pages. I keep back-ups of all the pages I do and they are up to date. So after a few hours of keyboard pounding I had all my customer's web sites back to normal and as they looked before the attack. Now I must change all the pass words and permissions. I will never understand why hackers want to destroy pages, Why don't they put their talent to good use. You have to be much smarter about computers and networks than I to break into a domain and change the content as they did. I am just thankful I could repair the damage.

Crash and Burn

Its not if its when ! After about six months of very hard use my Lap Top crashed. It was getting pretty slow anyway and needed to be formatted and reloaded. It came with Vista Home and I wanted to try Vista Ultimate anyway. I did a clean install and it went on without a hitch. It took about one hour to load. I would like to have 2 gig to replace the 1 gig I am running now, but RAM is still very expensive, so that will wait. Now comes the hard part of reloading all the files, photos, music, and addresses. I did have 99% backed up but it will take many hours to restore them. This is a wake-up call, "back up the stuff you don't want to loose" as it will happen to you sooner or later.
Be prepared !

Eagle Sighted

Eagle sighted

Today (Sat.) at 12 noon I was on my way to the Legion Post to have lunch with a few friends. I started the car and pulled to the end of the drive waiting for cars to pass. I seen what I thought was a hawk as it was not flying like a buzzard but was as big. I then seen the white patch on the tail and I knew then it was an eagle. I slammed the car in park jumped out and ran to the house for my camera. I grabbed the camera bag and changed the lens to telephoto. I then ran back outside, but on the way I yelled at my wife to come outside to see the eagle. She said, "a what"? by this time I was looking all over the sky but nothing was seen but a few swallows. Yep I missed the photo. This was the first eagle I have ever seen outside of the ones on TV. Many people near Versailles have seen them over the park lake and it is reported there is a nest on the shore of the lake. Yes I missed the shot but my camera is now setting on the table with the correct lens waiting for the next one, that is if one ever comes above my home again.

Hubble Space Telescope Launched April 25th 1990

Hubble Space Telescope (HST; also known colloquially as "the Hubble" or just "Hubble") is a space telescope that was carried into Earth orbit by the Space Shuttle in April 1990. It is named for the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. Although Hubble was not the first space telescope, it is one of the largest and most versatile, and well known as both a vital research tool and a public relations boon for astronomy. The HST is a collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency, and is part of NASA's Great Observatories series, with the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and the Spitzer Space Telescope.

Earth Day Apr 22

Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22, including the U.S.

All Good Things Must Come To An End

For the last 3 1/2 days I have tried to configure a network video server (NVS) without luck. It must be defective I have come to realize. In todays mail it goes back to the seller hoping for a refund. I have hooked the new pan, tilt, zoom camera up to my Blue Net NVS and as always it is working perfect. I may buy another at a later time but for now I am burned out. If you want to see the work of art go to:

Our first TV

1952 was a big year for me as this was when our family received it's first TV. It was an RCA 17 inch and was installed by a new TV shop that was located in Dillsboro, Indiana, Sorry I cant remember the name. We had a two story farm home and the double X antenna was mounted as high on the roof as posible. We received a perfect picture on three channels, 5, 9, & 12 all from Cincinnati, Ohio. If you are old enough you will enjoy viewing some of the YouTube videos of the first shows I seen and they are listed below. Another page I found on this subject that contains lots of facts about early Cincinnati TV is at:

New Camera Added

It was a simple fix to the multiplexer with a jumper replacement. After the fix I have added another camera. It is focused on the Ham Radio station and will let people I am talking to to see me and my station. I am looking at a pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) camera, but don't tell my wife, it is very expensive. If I get it you (the viewer) will be able to control it from your computer so keep your fingers crossed for me.

Where did the Bees go ?

Have you noticed there are no or very few honey bees in your yard. I noticed this about two years ago. There are fewer toads and almost no land crawls now. Land craws are the crawfish that build mud chimneys in your yard or low wet areas such as road ditches. Like bees they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Are we next ?

Icy Ball

This type of refrigeration has fascinated me ever since a neighbor had explained it to me when I was about 12 years old. I have always thought remote areas are missing the boat by not using this simple device. It reminds me of the Harrison Ford movie,"Mosquito Coast".
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In the early part of the 20th century, it was thought that inexpensive refrigeration would be a great boon for mankind. IcyBall was a name given to two early refrigerators, one made by Australian Sir Edward Hallstrom in 1923, and the other design patented by David Forbes Kieth of Toronto, Ontario, Canada (filed 1927, granted 1929), and manufactured by American Powel Crosley Jr., who bought the rights to the device. Both devices were unusual in design in that they did not require the use of electricity for cooling. As supplied, they ran on for a day on about a cup of kerosene and this allowed rural areas without the luxury of electricity to utilise the benefits of refrigeration.

Water Found on Mars

NASA reporting to have pictures of water on Mars. This is the end of a long search that has been hopefully coming for many years. Elrod Jinkins (NASA PR) reported today. Jinkins said, We (NASA) have only one photo of the liquid, but it is clear as day and there can be no doubt, it is the real thing. Nasa has posted the image for view at:

April Fools' Day

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day, though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fools' errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. Traditionally, the jokes only last until noon. If you play a trick on someone after this time you are the April Fool.
